NEW BEGINNINGS CARES
Not only are we an academic institution, but here at New Beginnings Learning Academy we try to stress the importance of our community and environment. We are involved in several projects throughout the school year that will inspire children to respect our community and to want to lend a helping hand whenever they can. We want to instill values that our students can carry with them throughout their lives.
"Anyone can make a positive change in this world". Learning this early on is especially important in the growth and development of a child.
We care about the environment!
The Middletown Garden Lovers Club came to school to help us plant beautiful flowers. Each classroom learned about growing and about taking care of a living thing. Our students and staff have shown that they are productive members of society through their community service and involvement in so many projects that have been a benefit to our community at large.
Each year we participate in the Pasta for Pennies fundraiser, which benefits children with leukemia and lymphoma.
DURING THE HOLIDAYS
Each year we take a walk to the Senior Citizens Center in Middletown and spend time with the elderly. We read books, made cards and baked together. We send Christmas cards to our troops wishing them Happy Holidays and thanking them for protecting us. It is important for us to understand humility and give back to the less fortunate. In teaching this we hold an annual food drive during Thanksgiving and a Christmas gift drive known as "Adopt-A-Family" during Christmas time. Our school provides opportunities for your children to learn about how to be safe and healthy all year around. We have annual visits from the local Fire Department. They teach our kids about fire safety and the kids just love going on the fire trucks. We also work with the local Police Department with a yearly D.A.R.E. Program.
ALL YEAR ROUND
During the school year, we talk about making healthy choices all year around. Last year we had a nutritionist come to school and talk to students and parents about eating clean and healthy.
Also, the Lyons See and Lyons Reading Program come to school to read with our students and to do vision screenings. The Dentist comes once a year to talk about dental hygiene and distribute toothbrushes to all students. We also hold an annual fundraiser to help mommies and babies with the March of Dimes. Last year we raised over $3,000 for this wonderful cause! And let's not forget about the animals! New Beginnings holds a yearly fundraiser to benefit Pets Alive of Middletown. Every October we wear pink and raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness.
